Garbage in and around Maharagama was cleared within two hours by municipal council workers on the orders of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the police yesterday said.

President Rajapaksa had reportedly seen garbage piles in several places in Maharagama while on his way to meet the Mahanayake of Kotte Sri Kalayani Samagri Dharma Maha Sangha Sabha Ven. Ittapana Dhammalankara Thero at the Rukmale Dharmawijayaloka Viharaya in Kottawa on November 23.

A senior police officer said the president had ordered the Director of the Presidential Security Division to inform the police to deploy municipal workers to remove the garbage. On receiving the president's orders, the police had taken immediate steps to remove garbage in and around Maharagama. (Indika Ramanayaka)

If garbage trucks didn't come to take the garbage, white vans would have come to take the municipal workers. Only in Sri Lanka! I suppose that is one way to do it!

Removed from Maharagama ? But here have they dumped the removed garbage ? At another town ?? The President shall also inquire where have they taken and dumped.

So the Police work for the municipal council, or the municipal labourers work for the Police. What a convoluted system!

    Observer Tuesday, 26 November 2019 11:50 AM

What about the Local Authority in Maharagama? Of what use is their existence ? No probe on that!

Sri Lankans are born to criticize everything, even the good they see in a bad eye.
