Legal action planned against bakery in Mannar over food safety violations



Colombo, Feb. 3 (Daily Mirror) - Public Health Inspectors attached to the Mannar Medical Officer of Health, along with the Municipal Public Health Inspector, inspected a bakery operating under the name Super Pannaye on February 3, 2026.

Following the inspection, three persons employed at the establishment are scheduled to be produced before the relevant authorities on February 5, 2026, officials said.

Charges are to be filed against those responsible for multiple food safety violations, including the failure to obtain a registered certificate for handling food, storing food contaminated with mosquito and cockroach feces, preparing food in unhygienic premises, and handling food without gloves, masks, or caps. 

Further charges relate to food preparation without valid medical certificates.

Health authorities said that strict action will be taken against establishments found violating public health regulations to ensure consumer safety.
