Landslide alert issued for central and Uva provinces



Colombo, February 21 (Daily Mirror) - The National Building Research Institute (NBRO) has called for heightened vigilance across several Divisional Secretariat areas in the central and Uva provinces, citing ongoing risks of landslides due to prevailing conditions.

The advisory, effective from 8.00 am today (21) to 8.00 am tomorrow (22), specifically highlights the Nildandahinna and Walapane divisions in Nuwara Eliya District. Officials have urged local authorities to monitor vulnerable locations closely and coordinate emergency preparedness measures.

Additional warnings cover Mathurata and Hangurakketha in Nuwara Eliya, and Meegahakivula and Kandeketiya in Badulla District. Residents in these areas are advised to stay informed, avoid high-risk zones, and report any signs of ground instability to authorities immediately.

The institute highlighted that proactive community awareness and readiness are crucial to reducing the potential impact of landslides during this period.
