LKR depreciates to the highest point in history

The Sri Lankan Rupee depreciated to the highest point in history today reaching Rs. 249 against the US Dollar.

According to the exchange rate data released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) today, the US Dollar buying rate was recorded at Rs. 249.96, and the indicative rate was Rs. 229.33 against the US Dollar.

The Central Bank yesterday confirmed to bankers yesterday that the Sri Lankan Rupee is floating.

who is responsible to this? Are they public or politicians or civil servants who advise governments. No doubt all of us are responsible to this pathetic situation. Public voted for some people who do not know how economies of the countries are working. so, they have a role in this downfall. Politicians too should be blamed. they have failed to seek advise of experts on economy for their arrogance. So, they should take some responsibility. More importantly, our economic experts and academics in our universities must take a lion share of responsibilities. They know well how this situation has been deteriorating but they failed to alert our politicians on time how to come out of this crisis. So, we all should blame them too for their lackadaisical behaviours and attitudes.
