Islandwide river levels normal; minor flood reported at Manampitiya

Colombo, February 22 (Daily Mirror) - Water levels in most major rivers across the country remained within normal limits as of 6.30 a.m. today (22), according to the latest Islandwide Water Level and Rainfall Situation Report.

However, a minor flood situation was reported at the Mahaweli Ganga – Manampitiya gauging station, where the water level rose to 4.40 metres, exceeding the minor flood level of 4.30 metres. Authorities noted that the water level is rising at the location.

Kelani Basin

All gauging stations in the Kelani basin recorded normal levels.

Nagalam Street: 2.20 ft

Hanwella: 2.95 m

Glencourse: 11.24 m

Kithulgala: 1.58 m

Holombuwa (Gurugoda Oya): 1.05 m

Deraniyagala (Seethawaka Ganga): 1.06 m

Norwood (Kehelgamu Oya): 1.10 m

Kalu Basin

Water levels along the Kalu basin also remained normal.

Putupaula: 1.26 m

Ellagawa: 7.47 m

Rathnapura: 4.65 m

Magura (Maguru Ganga): 3.46 m

Kalawellawa (Kuda Ganga): 4.26 m

Gin Basin

Baddegama: 2.25 m

Thawalama: 3.22 m

Both stations reported normal levels.

Nilwala Basin

Thalgahagoda: 0.84 m

Panadugama: 4.33 m

Pitabeddara: 2.18 m

Urubokka Ganga – Urawa: 1.10 m

All stations remained at normal levels.

Other River Basins

Walawe Ganga – Moraketiya: 1.30 m (Normal)

Kirindi Oya – Thanamalwila: 3.20 m (Normal)
