Internal probe over sexual harassment on female employees in Parliament: Dy Speaker

A three-member committee has initiated an internal investigation over the complaints made by female employees attached to the Housekeeping Department of Parliament on allegations of sexual abuse and harassment by senior officials, Deputy Speaker Ajith Rajapakshe said today.

He said this in Parliament in response to a question by SJB MP Rohini Kumari Wijerathne regarding the incident.

MP Wijerathne said victimized female employees have been influenced by the senior officials who were involved in the incidents and they have been forced into giving a written assurance that such abuses or assaults had not taken place.

The MP said these victimized female employees had doubts whether an impartial investigation would be held into the incidents and urged that strict action should be taken against those responsible.(Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

Wil this also be another secret Committee Report that will not be published after spending hours of questioning and wasting taxpayers moneys in safeguarding the dastardly acts of the privileged perpetrators in the parliament? Typical of Lanka society. We were given free rice, free bun, free books, free bags. Then fringe benefits were given to politicians. They want some more free things such as free electricity for their weddings, free flights, and now free sex. Health Minister can arrange free condoms and and free medication for Sexually transmitted Disease. Nothing like Lanka.
