IGP orders CID to arrest the cops involved in Rambukkana shooting

The IGP has instructed the DIG in charge of the CID to take immediate action to arrest those who gave orders and responsible for the shooting at protesters in Rambukkana in which a person was killed.

The Kegalle Magistrate on Wednesday ordered the IGP to arrest and produce the policemen involved in the incident including those who gave order to open fire on protesters in which an unarmed individual died after being shot by the police at Rambukkana.

Kegalle Magistrate Wasana Nawaratne gave the order during the magisterial inquiry over the incident was taken up before the court.

The police said the order was issued by the Kegalle Magistrate's Court to the IGP was acknowledged by the Police Headquarters on Thursday (28).

As such, the IGP ordered the DIG in charge of the CID to act immediately on court order.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

IGP, this merciless killing and police brutality happened under your watch and you even tried to justify it using media. You are paid by the public funds and considered a public servant . Why don’t you come up and tender a public apology to the family of the victim and the general public as well? This is what happens in the civilised parts of the world, IGP !
