Colombo, Jan. 30 (Daily Mirror) - The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has initiated legal action in connection with a large-scale human trafficking and foreign employment scam allegedly operated by a Sri Lankan national based overseas under the name “Dubai Sudda.”
According to the SLBFE, the suspect has been using social media platforms to promise employment opportunities in Moldova, targeting Sri Lankan job seekers. The Bureau said it has received multiple complaints from individuals who paid money after responding to these online advertisements and later discovered they had been deceived.
The SLBFE stated that investigations are currently underway and urged any other victims of the scam to immediately lodge complaints with the Bureau. Authorities warned that such fraudulent operations not only cause financial losses but also expose job seekers to serious risks, including human trafficking.
The Bureau reiterated that under the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment Act No. 21 of 1985, only licensed agencies are legally permitted to recruit workers for overseas employment. Engaging in recruitment, advertising, or collecting money for foreign jobs without a valid licence is a punishable offence.
The SLBFE further advised the public to verify all foreign employment opportunities through approved agencies and to refrain from handing over money or personal documents to individuals promoting jobs via social media.
