Hotel De Plaza staff assaulted by customers, Management issues official statement

Colombo, Nov. 24 (Daily Mirror) - The management of Hotel De Plaza has clarified the events surrounding an incident that occurred on  November 22, following videos circulating on social media.

According to the official statement, a group of customers repeatedly attempted to place an order while the restaurant was at full capacity. Staff informed them of a 30-minute waiting time, but the group returned multiple times, and on their third visit, they assaulted four employees, causing injuries including a head injury and fractured fingers. Two staff members have since been discharged, while two others are receiving treatment at the General Hospital.

Hotel De Plaza management highlighted that its staff were forced to defend themselves after being physically attacked, and that the videos circulating online do not show the full context of the incident. The management urged the public to consider the full situation before drawing conclusions, warning that incomplete footage could create unnecessary racial or communal tension.

The hotel reaffirmed its commitment to cooperate fully with authorities and stated that the safety of staff and guests remains a top priority.
