Whilst highlighting that two Commitees are to be appointed to probe Channel 4 allegations on Easter Sunday attacks, the Catholic Church in Sri Lanka yesterday called for an independent probe monitored by recognised foreign bodies and individuals.

This was highlighted by the archdiocese of Colombo Communication committee member Fr. Cyril Gamini Fernando.

"We have been told that the President is to appoint a new committee to probe the allegations made by Channel 4 on Easter Sunday attacks. A Presidential Commission and a select Commitee was appointed to probe the Easter Sunday attacks earlier. However these Commitees have not brought desired results, " Fr. Fernando said.

"Therefore we propose that an independent body should be appointed to probe the allegations made by channel 4 and also what had been revealed by previous investigations. We also suggest that recognized international bodies and individual bodies should be allowed to monitor the fresh probe in order to ensure impartiality, " he added.

Also it was reiterated that all officers in the intelligence units against whom allegations are made should resign till the fresh probe is completed. (Yohan Perera)

Dear Rev. Father as you have already stated all these Committees in the past have never brought the desired results this too will will only give this present government the breathing space until the next election as in the past all findings have taken a protracted period of time. Also when the focus is not to find the culprits to these crimes but to safeguard their interests what useful purpose will this be it is only to tease the patience of those affected. All peace loving Public should get together to oust this Rajapakse Regime at the next election so that the public can see the light at the end of the tunnel. So do not waste time on these hoodwinkers!!!!!!!!!

Mahinda, Basil and Sirisena cannot escape from this criminal act which were planned to topple the Government. An international investigation should be set soon and finalize the judgement.

Be careful not to appoint tamil diaspora infiltrated International human rights Council and bias media like channel 4 to any so called international investigators. The Cardinal too must be kept out as he is out for revenge and has preconceived conspiracy theories.

all leaders mark time appointing Commissions. We will never get to the bottom to find the offenders. The suggestion to have foreign supervisors is a good idea. RW will never agree as he too had the information before hand

Fr. Cyril Gemini Fernando is correct in his assessment, since most of the commissions reports were shelved without any tangible action been taken, inorder to protect the people named by commissions against whom action has to be taken, in the Easter Sunday attacks International unbiased members seated as full members is essential. Sri Lanka could consult, Attorney General of South Africa, the modus operandi used in their country of appointing commission on apartheid discrimination in that country.

If local parties are appointed, those who plotted the conspiracy theory of Easter Sunday attacks or those who are claimed to have plotted the attacks can influence the findings. A very independent probe is what is required.
