Heavy rainfall warning issued for several provinces

Colombo, February 21 (Daily Mirror) - Residents in the Central, Uva and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as the Ampara, Batticaloa and Polonnaruwa districts, have been urged to remain vigilant due to a low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka.

According to the Meteorology Department, heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely at some locations within these provinces and districts. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are also expected in several other parts of the country.

Authorities warn that the prevailing weather conditions may result in strong winds, thundershowers, localized flooding, and possible landslides in vulnerable areas.

The general public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize potential damage caused by heavy rain and gusty winds. Residents in low-lying and landslide-prone areas are particularly encouraged to stay alert to official advisories and emergency instructions.

Disaster management Centre continue to monitor the situation closely and will issue further updates as necessary.
