Heavy New Year travel rush at Makumbura

Colombo, April 11 (Daily Mirror) - A surge of passengers was reported at the Makumbura Multimodal Centre (MMC) this morning (11) as commuters began travelling to their hometowns for the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year.

Long queues were seen at the terminal due to the increased demand for transport, particularly for expressway bus services. A large number of passengers had gathered at the centre since the early hours of the day.

Despite the congestion, authorities stated that sufficient buses have been deployed to manage the influx, ensuring that commuters are able to leave for their destinations without major inconvenience.
