The first provincial-level programme to brief government executives on the government’s digitalization agenda and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology will be held today (26) at the Kandy District Secretariat, the President’s Media Division (PMD) announced.
The initiative, aimed at strengthening officials’ understanding of the government’s digitalization strategy and enhancing AI literacy, will bring together all executive officers of the Central Provincial Council, District and Divisional Secretariats, and other government institutions.
So far, six similar programmes have been conducted in Colombo with the participation of over 4,000 officials. The move to expand to the provinces seeks to ensure coverage across the entire country and to raise awareness among officials outside the capital about the digitalization plan, the responsibilities of public officers, and the application of AI in government operations.
The programme is organized by the Ministry of Digital Economy and the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA), in coordination with the Presidential Secretariat.
Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, Senior Advisor to the President on Digital Economy Affairs, together with ICTA Board Members Harsha Purasinghe and Samisa Abeysinghe, will serve as resource persons at the session.
