Colombo, March 15 (Daily Mirror) - President Anura Kumara Dissanayake held a high-level discussion today with Ministry Secretaries and Heads of Institutions to address the challenges in maintaining essential services following the escalating conflict in the Middle East.

The meeting reportedly focused on mitigating the impact of global instability on domestic supply chains and ensuring the uninterrupted functioning of critical sectors.

The President also stressed the need to formalize and streamline the digital QR system for fuel distribution, particularly to support the agriculture, fisheries, and industrial sectors. Securing a steady fuel supply for these sectors is considered essential to prevent broader economic fallout.

In an effort to promote fuel conservation, President Dissanayake instructed authorities to study the possibility of implementing “work from home” arrangements for public and private sector employees. Officials have been asked to submit a detailed report on the feasibility and practicalities of remote work as a measure to reduce national fuel consumption during this crisis period.

If you are referring to government sector, when they are physically at office, they find every excuse not to work or delay the work. Just imagine how their productivity would be if they work from home. Thanks for your brilliant suggestion.

Working from home is good except very essential civil servants: That is good idea : even schools can be done for some time Always make sure to limit vehicle usage by people and instead of buses why not increase train service 24 hours

I have read the comments in favour and opposed to the anticipated work from home decision. If the workload that employee must complete daily is identified and advised it can bring good results. In many government institutions work from home is not possible.

Hopefully the opposition will learn from the NPP/JVP and will not make stupid statements that can boomerang on themselves later on. They must stop criticising the government and let it handle the situation their own way!
