Colombo, September 25 (Daily Mirror) - Since its launch, the GovPay digital platform has facilitated payments exceeding Rs. 285 million, Digital Economy Minister Eranga Weerarathne said.
Speaking to the media, the Minister described GovPay as a successful initiative, noting that 137 institutions, including government agencies, have already connected to the platform.
“Two weeks ago, all government institutions in the Southern Province were linked to GovPay. A similar program has been carried out in the Northern Province, with efforts underway to expand coverage to the Central Province as well,” he said.
The Minister added that the initiative is encouraging more people to adopt digital payment methods.
GovPay has also been introduced for the payment of traffic fines in the Western Province and on expressways. Plans are in place to extend this system to three more provinces, with the remaining provinces to be added thereafter.

Good job. Next step is to make it compulsory for any trader to have at least one digital payment method available. If the 1.5-3% charge on cards are too high, the LankaPay QR system can be implemented as it has minimal fees and they are determined by CBSL and not banks or international card services like visa and mastercard.
