Gampola Divisional Secretary ordered to pay Rs.100,000 to Ambuluwawa cable car project company

Colombo, Nov. 8 (Daily Mirror) - Gampola Udapalatha Divisional Secretary Athma Dilrukshi Jayaratne was ordered yesterday by the Appeal Court to pay compensation of Rs. 100,000 to the construction company in charge of the Ambuluwawa cable car project, for obstructing the project through undue interference in her official capacity.

Appeal Court Judge Gihan Kulatunga further ordered the Divisional Secretary to refrain from any obstruction to the project.

The Judge held that the Divisional Secretary had acted ultra vires and obstructed the project approved by the relevant authorities.

He further held that the government officials should take deliberate decisions after a thorough case study of issues of this nature.

President’s Counsel Ali Sabry, Attorney at Law Namik Nafhan, appeared for the petitioner company with President's Counsel Sanjeewa Jayawardene watched the interests of the Ambuluwawa Trust.

Legal Officers of the Attorney General Department Appeared for the Divisional Secretary.
