GMOA demands vehicle permits every 5 years

Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) yesterday demanded duty free vehicle permits for senior state officers once in five years from the present limit of twice during the entire service period.

GMOA Secretary Nalinda Herath told a media briefing that they had written to President Maithripala Sirisena on this matter.

He said the 2016 Budget had deprived them of obtaining vehicle permits once in five years, a privileged they had enjoyed for several years.

“According to the new circular issued by the Finance Ministry, we are only granted two vehicle permits for the entire service period – the first on the completion of six years and the second after ten years,” Dr. Herath said. (Kalathma Jayawardhane)

This is not reasonable. The always try the citizens for ransom. They are also like other graduates in the Universities. Let us face the reality. They need vehicles let them buy without further adding cost to the Govt. To get them to hospital how much public money is spent on them Say no or permit

This this guy has something to say. Does he pay tax for the extras he make. Does he do his 45 hrs weekly. If he wants a car permit every 5 years make it compulsery that he sell it to the state less wear and tare to the price he paid so that these can be given to state sector employees for the same price.My final request is stop the duty free permits to these parasites

Jeez. This forum is full of Doctor haters but want their children to be one of them.No one like working till mid night. Everyone like 8 to 5 work. So how much doctor can earn with ordinary work? Max 50,000. Does it enough for decent living after 7 years of education and training? These people along with Engineers(specially uni of mortuwa and pera) are the cream of the country. SL should do more to keep best and brightest in the country not the other way around.

This sacred profession has become a burden to masses in SriLanka. Service oriented doctors are very few. Most of the Doctors reach hospitals breaching the the time schdules after their PP. Government shoud not give in to few unsrupless elements who try to dictate terms. Even the present facility should be restricted

Be willing to sacrifice a little bit of your luxury for the sake of the people and the country. Its the minimum you can do after getting free education from tax-payers money.

You guys are very selfish. Govt. spend lot of money for you to make you all doctors (much higher than other graduates).Once you all (not everybody) work for more than 3-4 years, you also do private practicing and earn lot of money.You all need to be fair asking this kind of unfair demands. I did not find any issue with ONCE, not for once in 5 years.

This is a very reasonable request. Doctors need reliable vehicles to rush to their private practices from the hospital at about 230 pm (or even earlier) and also to go home safely at night with the day's collection. a vehicle breakdown at night with all that cash is extremely dangerous. we do not wish any harm to befall our doctors who look after the health of us all with dedication adhering strictly to the Hippocrates oath.The general public can travel by bus if and when they come.
