Colombo, February 17 (Daily Mirror) - The Department of Examinations announced that the General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) Examination 2025 (2026) commences today (February 17) at 3,545 examination centres nationwide.

A total of 451,463 candidates, including 382,249 school candidates and 69,214 private candidates, are expected to sit the exams this year. To ensure smooth coordination, 531 coordination centres and 33 regional assembly centres have been established across the country.

Authorities have confirmed that comprehensive security arrangements are in place, with Sri Lanka Police and Sri Lanka Armed Forces personnel providing protection at all examination centres. The Disaster Management Center will remain on standby to respond to any emergency situations.

Special examination facilities have been set up in Ratmalana, Tangalle, Matara, and Chilaw. Additionally, dedicated centres have been arranged at Watareka Suneetha Vidyalaya, Maharagama Apeksha Hospital, and Kaithadi Nuffield Special School to accommodate candidates requiring special assistance.

Candidates are required to carry a valid National Identity Card, passport, or driving licence for verification. Strict regulations prohibit bringing mobile phones, smart devices, calculators, electronic equipment, notebooks, or any unauthorized materials into examination halls.

Applicants with special needs were identified in advance through an application and interview process, and appropriate arrangements have been made after reviewing medical documentation.

The Department urged candidates to report at least one hour before the start of each paper and to comply fully with examination regulations and instructions provided by supervising staff.
