Colombo, March 18 (Daily Mirror) - The Fuel Station Owners' Association (FSOA) has advised the public to visit fuel stations only after resolving issues related to the QR code system, stressing that fuel will not be issued without a valid QR code from today.
Speaking to the media, Fuel Station Owners Association President Kumar Rajapaksa said that the problems reported with the QR code system have now been largely resolved and the distribution of fuel will strictly follow the QR-based system.
He said that concessions granted yesterday to issue fuel without QR codes were only temporary due to technical difficulties faced by motorists.
“From today, fuel will not be dispensed without the QR code under any circumstances. If there are issues with the QR code, the public should call the 1919 hotline, resolve the matter, and then come to the fuel station,” he said.
Rajapaksa further said that fuel station operators cannot take responsibility for emergencies if motorists arrive without proper registration in the system.
“Even in an emergency, we cannot issue fuel without the QR code. We were instructed to follow the system strictly. If there is an emergency, they will have to use another vehicle,” he added.
The QR-based fuel distribution system was reintroduced by the Government to manage limited fuel stocks and ensure fair distribution among vehicle owners.
