Colombo, Feb 28 (Daily Mirror) - The Fuel Distributors' Association announced that they will cease fuel ordering activities from midnight today (28 February).
They said that while distribution of existing reserves will continue, no new orders will be placed.
The decision follows the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation’s (CPC) move to abolish the 3% discount currently offered to distributors and implement a new payment formula, effective tomorrow.
CPC Chairman D.J. Rajakaruna noted that this change aligns with a circular issued in March 2022, making the current payment system illegal.
In response, the Distributors' Association confirmed at a media briefing this afternoon that they will suspend their petroleum orders.

Hello. Please use the railway to distribute the Fuel to entire country. All these huge bowsers owned by the parliamentarian and making big margin in supply of fuel to the entire country. It is very pathetic to say only in Sri Lanka using bowser through our road to transport fuel. It is not happening poor country in Somalia and Swaziland. Please take the per decision to transport the fuel only through the railway line. Hon Pavithra also try to do it. But miserably failed

Prof, Your comment and the people who had liked it shows that you guys don't understand ground realiities...and most importantly dont understand why this is happening. Its not the transporters who are on strick. Its the petrol sheds that are not placing orders due to reduction in their commission. So even if Thambuthegama Bindu operates Diesel Kumari Express there wont be buyers. By the way just look to your right if you taking a train passed Peradeniya or kurunegala stations !

SL should go all out in getting more electric vehicles. This will gradually reduce the amount of fuel stations within the next 10 years. At the same time, increase electric charging stations by engaging the private sector (both local and foreign companies) and the government. China have heaps of electric vehicles which they can’t sell due to increased taxes in US and Europe. Draw out a plan to bring in these vehicles subject they also construct charging stations. Installation cost will be high and the government should take all steps to reduce the cost. Some areas are not charging taxes on equipments and construction of these charging points, cutting down red tape etc. Most countries have started on this drive and looking at 2030 to 2035 as a target years to achieve some concrete numbers of charging points.

All the gonas have not touched on the real issue for this problem. It is that so far to date, the dealers with help from CPC has skimmed of Rs. 8 billion on commissions not due to the dealers. When the correct rates on the dealership agreements are enforced by the current CPC of Malimawa, they go on strike to demand what is not due to them. What side are you on.?

When the news say, DISTRIBUTORS, some readers assume that it is the TRANSPORTERS. Transporters do not place orders for fuel with CPC. In other words it is the Shed Owners who place orders with CPC for Fuel. We saw how many Mahinda Loyalists were given permission to own and operate Petrol sheds. If the media had made this clear, readers will not be mislead. In other words, it is a tussle of CPC Vs Petrol Shed Owners that has created the crisis. I wish the media could have used better language instead confusing readers.
