Former Kegalle SSP K.B. Keerthirathna and three Police Constables have been arrested by the CID in connection with the Rambukkana shooting in which a protester was killed on April 19.

Senior Police Spokesman Ajith Rohana said based on the court order, the IGP has instructed the DIG in charge of the CID to immediately arrest the police personnel involved in the Rambukkana shooting .

Accordingly, the former SSP was arrested in Colombo while the constables were taken into the custody in Kundasale in Kandy this evening, SDIG Rohana said.

The Kegalle Magistrate on Wednesday ordered the IGP to arrest and produce the police personnel involved in the incident including those who gave orders to open fire on protesters during Rambukkana protest.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

I don't think any orders were given to kill anyone. May be it was excessive. Certainly there couldn't have been an intent to kill. Policemen have a hard time in crowd control particularly they are hell bent on destruction of property public or private. If things went totally out of hand and major calamity occurs all those who are blaming police will blame police for inaction.
