Former Moratuwa Mayor Samanlal released on bail

Colombo, Sept. 23 (Daily Mirror) - Former Moratuwa Mayor Samanlal Fernando was released on bail by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today.

The Magistrate granted bail with a cash bail of Rs. 50,000 and three sureties of Rs. 1 million each.

In addition, the Court imposed a foreign travel ban and prohibited the former Mayor from entering the Moratuwa Municipal Council. He was further directed to extend his full cooperation with the ongoing investigations.

It is alleged that under the Maga Neguma Urban and Rural Road Development Project, the suspect had caused losses to the State by making irregular payments in respect of 112 development project contracts of the Moratuwa Municipal Council.
