Fmr Army Commando wanted for Thalangama shooting killed in shootout with STF



A suspect wanted by the police in connection with a shooting in Thalangama was killed in a shootout with the Police Special Task Force in Hanwella.

The STF said the suspect is a former commando of the Army.

The STF launched an operation to arrest the suspect in connection with a shooting incident that took place in the Thalangama area on August 25 and the suspect opened fire at the STF during the operation.

The STF said that the suspect, identified as 'Kota Supun,' a 24-year-old resident of Thalangama, was the main shooter in the Thalangama shooting incident.

The former commando sustained injuries during the shootout and subsequently died after being admitted to Padukka Hospital.

During the inspection of the suspect's house, STF discovered a live grenade, a motorcycle, and a fake number plate.

A 44-year-old man was killed in Thalangama on August 25 after two men who arrived on a motorcycle, had opened fire at him at Robert Gunawardena Mawatha.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
