Colombo, October 11 (Daily Mirror) - The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has announced that its final decision regarding the proposed electricity tariff revision will be released on Tuesday, October 14.
According to PUCSL Director Jayanath Herath, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has proposed a 6.8 percent increase in electricity tariffs.
Nandana Udayakumara, Vice President of the CEB Technical Engineers and Supervisors Association, said the proposed hike is necessary due to the authorities’ failure to properly implement restructuring programs within the board.
Meanwhile, M. D. R. Athula, Chairman of the Electricity Users’ Association, warned that the board’s operational costs, currently at Rs. 1.5 million, could increase to nearly Rs. 10 million if the Electricity Board is divided.
The PUCSL’s upcoming decision is expected to set the course for electricity pricing in the country for the coming months.
