Fake Bribery Commission officer arrested in Polonnaruwa



Colombo, Oct. 23 (Daily Mirror) - A man posing as an officer of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) was arrested in Polonnaruwa yesterday.

According to the CIABOC, the suspect,  a Group GPS Monitoring Manager of a private company in Polonnaruwa — was arrested by its investigating officers in Polonnaruwa.

The suspect was arrested following a confidential information received by the Commission. 

The suspect is accused of preparing a fake identity card identical to an official CIABOC ID and using it to pose as a Commission officer to influence government officials in the performance of their duties.

The suspect would be produced before the Polonnaruwa Magistrate’s Court.

Meanwhile, the Bribery Commission urged the public to report any individuals falsely presenting commission identity cards or impersonating its officers by calling the hotline 1954 hotline.
