Colombo, Feb. 25 (Daily Mirror) - Claiming that the government is making a diplomatic intervention to extradite former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran from Singapore, Cabinet Spokesman Dr Nalinda Jayatissa said yesterday that extraditing Mahendran is not a simple procedure.

Responding to a question, the Minister said the lawsuits against Mahendran are in progress even in his absence.

"We are continuing the lawsuits against him. The government is making a diplomatic intervention to extradite him. It is not a simple procedure. We will continue lawsuits whether he is available in the country or not. We are making diplomatic intervention to bring him down as soon as possible," he said.

The Minister said no one responsible for the bond scam allegations would be allowed to go scot free, adding that taking everyone responsible before the law is the intention of the government.

Singapore will never extradite Arjuna Mahendran. It is against Singaporean law to extradite one of its own citizens to another country on the basis of an offence alleged by Sri Lanka, regardless of whether extradition agreements exist.

First do your job you were elected for i.e. making life better for us. But what’s happening is you’re going in reverse. Shortages and queues have come back with vengeance (they were all removed long time ago), roadside shootings, drafting many meaningless legislations and reversing them when there’s a backlash, ministers becoming the laughing stock in front of educated masses by their stupid utterances and so on. And finally making impossible and undeliverable promises and then crying out excuses like above.
