Colombo, October 26. (Daily MIrror) - In what appears to be an instance highlighting differences within the government, Energy Minister Kumara Jayakodi has cancelled the one-year service extension granted to Director General of the Power Sector Reforms Secretariat, Pubudu Niroshan, by Ministry Secretary Udayanga Hemapala.

Mr. Niroshan was originally appointed to the post by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake for a one-year term, which ended on October 15, 2025. However, the Ministry Secretary had extended his tenure by another year — a decision the Minister has now revoked, asserting that only he holds the authority to make such an appointment.

Minister is right. This was a political appointment and not a normal administrative appointment as such decision to extend need to be by the political authority. Secre6should have known that.

There must be a reason for this cancellation and it’s an internal matter, let the ministry to sort out the issues , instead of taking it in to a public domain.

It is reported that that secretary has granted the extension without consulting the Minister who was away from the island. Such things should not happen.

Correct. This guy who was doing procurement for Fertiser Corporation where he was demoted, has now ended up as a Minister. So how much can you expect from him? Disaster awaits and his boss the President will prove himself a fool, to pursue with such a character.

This minister does not have the ability to take the energy portfolio forwards and AKD and NPP will be too late to learn that. He did absolutely nothing in the restructure process and is obviously jealous of those who are smarter than him. This is not a sign of a good manager. The high handed actions of the CEB unions is the responsibility of the minister and he had one year to correct that which he has failed to do. Unless AKD changes him trouble in store IMO.
