Yala, Jan 09 (Daily Mirror) -  An emergency disaster situation has been declared at the Yala National Park following the inundation of entrance points due to the spilling of minor tanks, an official said.

In light of the situation, access to Yala National Park has been restricted, with the main entrance at Palatupana completely blocked by floods. Consequently, entry from the main gate has been temporarily suspended till further notice.

Compounding the severity of the situation, local residents and tourists who were present in the park's bungalows are being evacuated due to the looming threat of a major flood.

The government has appointed a committee to dispatch a boat and food for the animals ( joking )

Yes, where is the footage of the animals? News media have drones, governments have helicopters for arial coverage,of this disaster situation. That would be as important and accurate as reporting on the tourists. No doubt the animals' fate is of consequence to all peoples of Sri Lanka.

I see vehicles .may be with tourists driven over flood streams .Water in spate has it s own velocity and can be dangerous for we never know how flash flooding works ..the movement of water in a deluge .Were there not weather alerts to stop these vehicles from entering the Yala park ? With micro climates of extremes created by planet adjusting to man made changes , there should be better management of tourist travel in the island ..this is one aspect of coping with climate change ..people need to be educated not to take risks ..
