Economic Development Officer arrested over aiding, abetting bribe

Colombo, Oct. 13 (Daily Mirror) - An Economic Development Officer attached to the Niyagama Divisional Secretariat was arrested by the Bribery Commission for aiding and abetting the Housing Officer of the National Housing Development Authority to accept a bribe.

The Housing Officer of the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) was arrested on September 15 while accepting a bribe of Rs. 25,000 after promising to help obtain the housing assistance granted by the NHDA.

The complainant had received the first installment of Rs. 150,000 out of the Rs. 1 million housing assistance granted by the NHDA and the Housing Officer had obtained a bribe of Rs. 25,000 while promising to assist the complainant in obtaining the balance amount.

The arrested Economic Development Officer is to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.
