Colombo, November 3 (Daily Mirror) - The jetty at the Eastern Terminal has been extended to 700 metres, with plans to further extend it to 1,000 metres, All Ceylon Ports General Employees Union General Secretary Niroshan Gorakanage said.
He made the remarks while addressing the 26th Delegates' Conference held this morning at the Colombo Fort Ex-Servicemen's Association Hall, under the patronage of Ports and Civil Aviation Minister Anura Karunathilake and Deputy Minister Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku.
Gorakanage added that the project is a special privilege for port workers, as it will allow for fully automated container operations, improving efficiency and reducing delays.
He also emphasided that support from all members will help strengthen the economy by eliminating corruption and irregularities that have hindered the port’s progress.
The conference was held under the theme: “Let's Build Ports to Strengthen the National Economy.”
