Colombo, April 18 (Daily Mirror)- The National People’s Power (NPP) said that a future NPP government will appoint a special Commission of Inquiry with full judicial powers to further investigate the facts

unearthed through the special Commissions and other investigations into the Easter Sunday attack and mete out justice to the victimized families.

The NPP issuing a statement pledged to implement the law against those who conspired to launch the attack and those who were held responsible for the attack and punish them
within a short period of time based on the recommendation of the said committee.

It said the government has failed to mete out justice to those who lost their lives, members of the victimized families and the property destroyed in the attacks.

In the seven-point statement, the NPP said the Easter attack was a conspiracy to fulfil a political motive and that it is a matter of top priority of a NPP government to take to book
the mastermind behind the attack and other conspirators.

It also said action would be taken against those who failed to prevent the attacks despite intelligence reports of the imminent attack and against security officials who prevented
action being taken against the culprits by diverting investigations into the attacks.

The statement also said future NPP government will file criminal charges against political authority and government officials who were responsible for the attacks.

The NPP government will request respective authorities and facilitate to expedite the ongoing cases on priority basis with regard to the Easter Attacks.

Action would also be taken to extradite all the criminals who had fled the country and investigate to ascertain the conspirators of the attacks through them.

The NPP said a compensation mechanism would be introduced to pay compensation to victims and property destroyed.

Main culprit’s family was NPP nation list nominee, and what nonsense these goons talking.

    Malaka Thursday, 18 April 2024 06:59 AM

These guys are talking of persons who who conspired to launch violence with a view to assume political power. What a joke. They should look at themselves in the mirror first and then lock themselves us. Their sordid past is well documented, and their most recent attempt using gullible masses a couple of years ago reinforces that their tactics remain unchanged over the years.

    Suren Thursday, 18 April 2024 07:08 AM

A desparate ploy to recruit a white robed middle order batsman it seems. These are the guys who killed so many so ruthlessly and sought to justify the means to their end. A leopard does not change its spots. People ignored MR's tsunami funds scam and now claim he went on stole the country to bankruptcy. The people are wiser now to be cognizant of persons early tell take signs. Their past gory and ruthless character will only likely to be exemplified should they ever get more authority into their hands.

    How many ‘Files!’ ?

last chance Thursday, 18 April 2024 11:57 AM

files cant be activated without power my friend,

    Man Thursday, 18 April 2024 12:47 PM

@ Last Change; Without power a party in the opposition filed a case for finding reasons with proof and delivered a verdict. It is ample proof that the NPP / JVP have no legacy to do any tangible thing. Talks only.

    Dee Thursday, 18 April 2024 01:36 PM

@Last chance . It certainly would be your ‘last chance’ to cast a vote if you vote in a bunch of subversives into power!

    Gabriella Thursday, 18 April 2024 07:56 AM

Another Committee ! What is required is a Committee to investigate the previous Committee and the Committee before that and the Committee before that. Then they can have a Cup of Tea with the Committee.

    Tilak Thursday, 18 April 2024 08:00 AM

Will the NPP have a commission to punish all those who were responsible for the killings and destruction of public property in 1988/89 era?

    Blessme Thursday, 18 April 2024 12:23 PM

its like asking punishment for crime committed by the Germans during the 2nd world war.Friend past is gone just see the conduct of them of the last 39 years.

Set a Timeline To Hear Outstanding Cases Thursday, 18 April 2024 08:21 AM

Good move. All unresolved corruption and murder cases must be given priority. A few separate courts should be set up to speed up these cases only. Set a timeline and within every 6 months, 5 to 10 cases must be heard and resolved accordingly.

    Sakya Thursday, 18 April 2024 09:49 AM

Some wishful thinking amount to nothing all the time they come with stories like Bollywood movie scripts NPP the hero going after the goons and destroy their fortress entirely and the hero and all good people live happily ever after . People use to see and hear pleasant ending only in movies

    Sira's brother Thursday, 18 April 2024 08:31 AM

NPP needs to walk the talk! They can take a few immediate steps; appoint a team of lawyers, retirec security forces and police officials who have pledged support to study the reports of various Commissions which are in the public domain. Outline the findings asap.

    Chris Thursday, 18 April 2024 08:36 AM

Here we go again before elections. Next will be Lasantha, Thajudeen and Ekneliyagoda!

This is reality Thursday, 18 April 2024 08:57 AM

On stage, the NPP always attacks the governance of the past 75 years, which were nothing but promises and assurances according to them. And now they themselves are indulging in the same rhetoric. Come on, think out of the box. To start with, use your available resources to conduct a shadow investigation immediately so that you already have some material to base your promise if and when you get the opportunity to govern. The people are clamouring for action not rhetoric. Boasting of gathering files will get you nowhere, for they will only gather dust in the end.

A COMPLETE CHANGE OF GOVERNMENT IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO, THE PRESENT LOT WILL LEAD US ALL DOWN THE GARDEN PATH, ONCE AGAIN. Thursday, 18 April 2024 09:19 AM

WE HAVE REPEATEDLY VOTED IN THE KNOWN DEVILS, LETS MAKE A CHANGE AND VOTE NPP AND GIVE THEM A CHANCE. I SEE THE PEOPLE HAVE GIVEN THIS GOVERNMENT FAR TOO MANY CHANCES. AS THE SAYING GOES " A LEOPARD NEVER CHANGES ITS SPOTS" AND WE HAVE TOO MANY OF THEM IN GOVERNMENT.

    johan Thursday, 18 April 2024 09:32 AM

The party like UNP,SLPP did more destruction than JVP.The civil war,the organised power hungered bomb blasts,Althgama,Digana violence, 1983 ethnic riots etc.etc.One should not just try to throw stone at another.

    Ram Thursday, 18 April 2024 10:11 AM

Nice words previously spoken by GR before the last election. GR failed to honour the promise. Will the NPP honour their promise

Last chance Thursday, 18 April 2024 11:17 AM

Ram these are not nice words, what they say will be turned to action as they have no connection to any politicians who are the perpetrators of this heinous crime .

    Man Thursday, 18 April 2024 12:37 PM

@ Last Chance; They failed in every sense as ministers under Chandrika and no action while being in the opposition rather than collecting and piling files as a hobby. They are notorious for lies.

    Sanjeewa A, Thursday, 18 April 2024 10:12 AM

We want a country where police and courts should do that, not a special committee with involvement of politicians. We need politicians with a vision to develop the country and focus on that.

    Vernon Thursday, 18 April 2024 06:03 PM

Courts can act only according to the Laws as enacted by the rogues in parliament. There is a major problem in our legal system, where when justice is given, it is far too late, denying justice. NPP has promised a commission with legal powers. Al previous commissions did not have any legal powers, and hence were non effective. Even the findings of mismanagement and robbery at the COPE and COPA, is of no use, as the Parliament never takes actions based on such findings of wrong doings. Please remember that corruption is rampant in the entire society, and such people do not want to go with NPP but want the present corrupt system to remain.

Ian Bertus Thursday, 18 April 2024 12:13 PM

Excellent . It would have been better if they specified the punishment to be meted out to these criminals who ignored the foreign inteligence reports and the political leadership of the time, including the President and the Prime Minister. Our hope is lifetime imprisonment for them.

    democrat Thursday, 18 April 2024 12:19 PM

39 year past has no effect in the minds of people , what is in their mind is the conduct of them for the last 39 years after embracing democracy. classic examples is the recent violence that took place with aragalaya few years ago. All pohottu boys in the parliament, one after another tried their level best to link JVP/NPP to the crime but they couldn't prove any thing to link them and that itself gave certificate to JVP that they are not for violence and they stand by democracy as the only way of capturing power.

    Dilum Thursday, 18 April 2024 01:15 PM

Keep walking with your eyes closed!

    Banda Thursday, 18 April 2024 01:18 PM

Look at who are talking, the very men and women from the party, who were responsible for unavoidable mob violance.

    Jeppa Thursday, 18 April 2024 02:58 PM

Looks SJB which is full of former pohottu stalwarts have started a smear champagne against NPP. But such champagne has no effect on NPP as it’s popularity is rising every day.

    Man Friday, 19 April 2024 09:15 AM

But, dodge debates as no sound policy of NPP/JVP rather than having speeches with bogus lies, rhetorically.

    Citizens Thursday, 18 April 2024 07:40 PM

Oh AKD! How desparate you sound!!

    Patcitz Friday, 19 April 2024 03:06 PM

Is NPP going to form a government in the "MOON"? Impossible dream fo this ERA!

    GHT Friday, 19 April 2024 03:08 PM

I also have a dream of becoming a leader as you talk bullshit.
