ETC users get 10% toll discount on expressway

Colombo, June 15 (Daily Mirror) - Motorists using the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system on the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway receive a 10% discount on the standard toll fee while enjoying faster passage through dedicated toll lanes, the Road Development Authority (RDA) said.

The RDA has also introduced a simplified online registration process for the ETC system to encourage greater use of the service and reduce inconvenience faced by motorists.

The expressway currently offers toll payment options through cash, card and ETC. Dedicated entry and exit lanes have been allocated for ETC users, allowing vehicles to pass through with minimal delays.

At present, ETC facilities are available at the Peliyagoda, Kerawalapitiya, Ja-Ela and Katunayake interchanges. The RDA said plans are underway to extend the facility to the Kadawatha Interchange for motorists entering the Katunayake Expressway via the Outer Circular Highway.

To address difficulties previously encountered by vehicle owners in obtaining ETC services, the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development and the RDA have enabled online registration through the website, www.exway.rda.gov.lk.

Once registered, motorists can collect an RFID tag from a convenient interchange centre and recharge their ETC account using a bank card through the website or GovPay. Toll charges will then be deducted automatically during travel.

The RDA advised ETC users to maintain a speed of 15 km/h when passing through entry and exit points and keep a distance of 20 metres from the vehicle ahead to ensure the smooth operation of the system.

An awareness programme was also conducted today to educate motorists on the benefits and proper use of the ETC service.

Rs. 1,000 will be charged at the final stage of online registration.
