Colombo, March 9 (Daily Mirror) - Electricity Distribution Lanka (Private) Limited (EDL) has officially taken over electricity distribution responsibilities previously handled by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), as part of the power sector reforms introduced through the Electricity Act No. 36 of 2024.
In a public notice issued to customers and stakeholders, EDL stated that it has assumed responsibility for the electricity distribution functions that were earlier carried out by the CEB.
The notice explained that the transition is part of the broader reform programme in the country’s power sector aimed at improving operational performance.
According to EDL, the new entity is empowered to implement reforms and operational improvements intended to enhance efficiency, reliability and the overall quality of service within the electricity distribution sector.
The company further said that the changes are expected to ensure a more responsive and customer-focused electricity supply service for the public.
The announcement comes amid the ongoing restructuring of Sri Lanka’s electricity sector, under which the former CEB structure has been reorganized into several entities responsible for generation, transmission and distribution functions.
