Aranayaka, Feb 08 ( Daily Mirror) - A doctor from the Aranayaka District Hospital has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 28-year-old female doctor while she was on duty.

Police said the 45-year-old doctor was arrested this morning and will be produced before the Mawanella Magistrate's Court.

The arrest follows a complaint by the victim's father. She had recently been transferred to the Aranayaka District Hospital from another hospital.

The victim alleges that the suspect doctor had touched her inappropriately while she was on duty.

Statements have been recorded from the victim and five other staff members present during the incident.

The female doctor is to undergo examination by the Judicial Medical Officer at the Kegalle Teaching Hospital, police said.

Touching inappropriately is sexual harassment and not assault. JMO cannot say much on any injury as the injury will be Psychiatric/mental

The judicial medical officer will examine the places inappropriately touched by the doctor?

If the male doctors are sexually molesting fellow female doctors , just imagine the horrible things they would be doing to female patients, most of which is never reported to the police. This is happening all over the world. Recently a report came out of Britain, doctors there molesting fellow female doctors in the operating theatres while operations are underway and how the complaints against the doctors are not being investigated by the British police and the British Medical Council.

With all due respect to the victim, I just cannot fathom what the Judicial Medical Officer may find on a person who has been "touched inappropriately".

Society has given too much respect to the doctors that they have become law unto to themselves. In reality what they do can be easily done by any Nurse or a Paramedic.

In underdeveloped or poor countries like Sri Lanka, doctors, lawyers and engineers etc are seen as people above the rest of the society in EVERY WAY and not just in Medicine and Surgery. Only when someone in this category commits an offence do people realise that underneath the outer covers they too can stoop low. Anyway, this doctor was merely touching inappropriately, which is abuse, not assault.

This is a clear reflection of moral decadence in society and not restricted to our country like no other only. The family company that assumed power in 2005 using race and religion destroyed all values in our country

A noble profession of yesteryear has been tarnished badly by the western world too. However there is an overplay by the present day men because everything of value was devalued by the RAJAPAKSA rogues. As a respected lawyer not a fellow like Namal said “kick a bush in HULFTSDORF AND YOU WILL FIND PC’s jumping out by the numbers “ This prefix was given to those who enriched the law.

Should all females be armed with a sharp knife in the hospital premises? the may feel safe.

What is to be examined by a doctor if it is only a touch. A touching issue indeed!
