Apr.30 (Mirror Sports) - While Indian youngsters like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi , Ayush Mhatre and Yashasvi Jaiswal continue to make headlines for their incredible performances, unprecedented talent and fearless approach to the game, two U-19 youngsters from the Sri Lankan squad have made headlines for all the wrong reasons.
The two players were arrested over allegations of secretly filming female guests in the privacy of their rooms inside a hotel in Narahenpita, raising further questions over the discipline, self-control, and the code of conduct of professional cricketers in Sri Lanka.
The two players were taken into custody based on a complaint lodged by the female guests said to be doctors.
The duo were later granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court on two sureties of Rs. 500,000 each. Over the last few years, there have been several high profile scandals that have tarnished the reputation and legacy of Sri Lankan cricket.
A player’s alleged sexual assault case in Australia in 2022 and a paternity lawsuit involving another in 2025 are two of the most worrying incidents to contend with that stirred up public interest and curiosity The lack of discipline and professional accountability, alongside on-field and administrative challenges, have been a major contributor to the decline of Sri Lankan cricket since winning the 2014 ICC T20 World Cup.
The question now is whether the new interim committee or Transformation Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket that took up position today, will take decisive action to restore the sport’s tarnished legacy—or whether fans will continue to see their national players making headlines for all the wrong reasons.
