Colombo, Oct. 29 (Daily Mirror) - Colombo Fort Magistrate Isuru Neththikumara today issued a warrant on Parliamentarian Jagath Manuwarna for failing to appear before court in connection with two cases filed in 2008.

When the cases were called today, counsel representing Jagath Manuwarna informed court that his client was unable to attend the proceedings as he was participating in a national ceremony held to distribute land deeds.

However, the Magistrate observed that the suspect had previously failed to appear before court citing ill health and noted that he had once again deliberately absented himself despite knowing that the cases were scheduled for today. The Magistrate stated that there was no reasonable justification for such conduct and accordingly ordered a warrant to be issued for the MP’s arrest.

Correct, land deeds could have been issued on any other day. Court appearances are important especially if cases are filed against you. Obeying any Court Order is far more important than issuing deeds and or any similar reason and or excuse. Hope the President gives this MP a pep talk and should NEVER be repeated by ANY NPP MP, only giving fuel to the wiped out opposition leaders and their stooges to keep trying to bring the GOVT to disrepute.

Every thing correct is happening , but extremely slowly. By the time the case comes up either the accused would have had a natural death or the government would have changed and all cases throw out of Court. It seems to me the NPP is also a anther farce !! My hope for a better Sri Lanka are fast vanishing !!

I wonder if ever there was a government , or whether there is a government of party rule that have all members squeaky clean ..if they do not rake in what ever revenue that is needed for the welfare of the people ..that is a great step towards moral obligation of a political leader ....if they do not act as agents for investors to profit more than what is due ..that is a step towards that ideal of a good government ..
