The Colombo Chief Magistrate today issued a warrant for the arrest of Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa for not being present in Court in connection with a case filed against him by Cinnamon Garden police.

The Cinnamon Garden police alleged that National Freedom Front (NFF) leader Wimal Weerawansa and five others who gave leadership to a protest which blocked the main roads at Bauddhaloka Mawatha in 2016, causing disturbance to the people and the normal flow of traffic.

Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa was not present before Court when the case came up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis.

On February 6, 2016, the NFF staged a protest march against the visit of United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Prince Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein.

Further magisterial inquiry fixed for September 11. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)

Just shows how broken the legal system iin Sri Lanka is. This case is going on for 7 years like most other cases. Lawyers make money as their meter keeps ticking with each postponement. Judges on cases have changed many time throughout the hearings. Why cant we learn from other countries and expedite the legal syste. Even investors dont want to come to this country as legal redress is so hard. Cant we just not listen to the lawyers who in large part are out to look after their personal interest first, and make the necessary changes. If there is repetitive no show by the other party close the case in favor of the party that shows up and move on. Publicise online the no show history of each attorney so that clients can make informed decisions when engaing lawyers. What ever is done we need urgent and radical reforms in this area. There has been big talk over many decades but it seems the club is looking after themselves.

Case filed in 2016 not heard yet. When fixed for hearing Wimal avoids court and later surrender so the case gets postponed. Keep him in remand until the hearing is concluded. These politicians thinks no end of them selves

Judges group has brought about action to say they are above law and should not pay tax that is on all others at same income level. The judges taking up the case keep delaying it, or postponing it, so giving themselves a continued advantage of not paying due taxes. With judicery doing that, Wimal using tricks and having his wife's sentence delayed saying she is too sick to come to court for it, is expected. Nothing is Sri Lanka is good and honest anymore.

When siri and Ranil was summoned to appear in courts and when they failed no arrest warrant was issued only published in the newspaper. We live in a wonderful country country.
