Colombo, Oct. 8 (Daily Mirror) - In the wake of the controversy over promoting LGBTQ tourism in Sri Lanka, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya said today the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) Chairman had issued a letter with regard to LGBTQ tourism without consulting the political authority.
She told Parliament that the respective Minister advised the SLTDA Chairman on the government's stance and policy on the LGBTQ issue.
The Prime Minister said the government's stance on the matter is that the government will not promote or give special privileges to any particular group.
She said this while responding to a question raised by SJB MP Kavinda Jayawardane regarding the actions taken by the government on the SLTDA Chairman over the particular letter.
The Prime Minister said sensitive issues should not be used to take political mileage.
