Coal issue: Chanaka accuses Minister of suppressing report

SLPP MP D.V. Chanaka has accused Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody of attempting to suppress a report on the importation of substandard coal.

Addressing the media, Chanaka alleged that the Minister had been present at the Norochcholai Power Plant for several days in a bid to conceal findings related to alleged irregularities in coal imports.

He further claimed that the issue was linked to a major fraud involving the government and warned that it could worsen the country’s power situation.

Chanaka also cautioned that the public may be forced to rely on generators during the upcoming festive season if the issue is not addressed.
