Channa Jayasumana slams Parliament Deputy Secretary General’s removal

Colombo, Jan. 25 (Daily Mirror) - Former MP Prof. Channa Jayasumana voiced strong opposition to the removal of the Deputy Secretary General of Parliament, alleging that the action was taken without due process.

Deputy Secretary General of Parliament Chaminda Kularatne had been suspended by the Staff Advisory Committee of the House last week.

Speaking to the media, Jayasumana said that the senior official was removed from his post without any prior notification or disciplinary inquiry.

"The Deputy Secretary General of Parliament has been removed without any notice and without any disciplinary investigation," Jayasumana said.

He warned that this action sets a dangerous precedent for the integrity and stability of the country's public service.

"I believe this precedent could have a very serious impact on the state service in the future," he emphasised.

The former MP linked the incident to the recent political rhetoric, specifically referencing controversial statements made by Minister K.D. Lalkantha.

"We saw Minister Lalkantha stating in the past few days that they would 'capture state power.' I think this is the method by which they are capturing state power," Jayasumana remarked.
