Capital Market Clubs to be set up in 100 selected schools: President

Steps will be taken to establish Capital Market Clubs in 100 selected schools and the top-performing school among them will be rewarded, President Wickremesinghe said.

He said ten students and their teachers from the best-performing school will have the opportunity to travel to Singapore to enhance their knowledge by observing and studying the Stock Market there.

The programme is intended to enhance the students' awareness and knowledge of the stock market and enhance financial literacy, thr President's Media Division (PMD) said.

The programme was initiated under the patronage of the President at Nugawela Central College in Kandy this morning.

It is good to have some financial literacy taught in schools not sure whether study of the capital markets alone is the way to go.For stock markets to work as they were intended need other things like equality of opportunity freedom of speech etc plus hard work thrift discipline and a visionary at the top as was the case in Singapore

Next the most important deficiency in the country is food security - they should be taught to produce food crops and related industries by having vocational studies. These will help to build the nation.
