COVID cases found in three buses travelling violating inter province restriction

Three COVID-19 positive cases were reported from three buses travelling from Colombo to Batticaloa violating the inter province travel ban, the police said.

Police Spokesman SDIG Ajith Rohana said that the drivers and conductors of the three buses were arrested accordingly by the Karadiyannaru Police.

The buses were inspected by Army and police officers on duty at an Army checkpoint on the Chenkaladi-Badulla road.

It was revealed that the buses had no permits to travel between the provinces.

The spokesman said rapid antigen tests were conducted on 49 passengers on the buses and three passengers tested positive for Covid-19.

He said 17 passengers were directed for quarantine. The infected have been admitted to the Karadiyannaru Hospital.

SDIG Rohana said the suspects would be charged in court for violating quarantine regulations.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
