COPE, COPA cannot function without Auditor General: Opposition MP

Colombo, Dec. 29 (Daily Mirror) - The Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) and the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) cannot function after January 6, 2026 without an Auditor General, Opposition MP Dayasiri Jayasekera said today.

He said the COPE and the COPA cannot function without an Auditor General as per Articles 148 and 152 of the Constitution.

"An independent Auditor General should be appointed soon," he said.

I wonder if COPE and COPA has done any thing effective to date, except meetings. Has any of their findings led to formal complaint to the judiciary resulting an outcome to punish the culprits?

We the people of this country have a right to know why the constitution council is rejecting the nominees of president. President should wait till the present constituent councils period of existence expires. We have full confidence of the president that his only desire is to get a good man for this important position to rid this country from corruption.

Dayasiri we don't care a dam for what you say, let the president appoint new constitution council and appoint a good ,honest ,capable person to the auditor general position.
