Colombo, December 30 (Daily Mirror) - The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has provided an update on the status of generators at the Lakvijaya (Norochcholai) Coal-fired Power Plant.
Generator No. 2 was shut down on November 3, 2025 for scheduled ‘B’ level maintenance, which is conducted once every three years with the support of both local and international technical teams. The maintenance work is now in its final stages, and preparations are being made to reconnect the generator to the national power grid around January 14, 2026, following the scheduled inspections.
Meanwhile, Generator No. 1 was unexpectedly shut down on December 20, 2025 due to a sudden boiler failure. Urgent repair work is currently underway, and the CEB expects to restore the generator and reconnect it to the grid by approximately January 18, 2026.
The CEB assured the public that these maintenance and repair activities will not disrupt the continuous supply of electricity.
