CAA warns public over ‘Hair Miracle’ product sold online

Colombo, Dec. 30 (Daily Mirror) - The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has taken legal action against a hair care product marketed as Hair Miracle (250g), which was widely sold to consumers through online platforms, citing misleading information provided to the public.

Following an investigation, the CAA found that the product had been sold without approval from the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA), despite falsely claiming on its label that such approval had been obtained. The investigation also revealed that the manufacturer’s address and contact number were not mentioned on the product packaging. The product was mainly promoted and distributed through online sales channels.

Legal proceedings were instituted against the company that marketed the product from Castle Street, Colombo 08, and the company that manufactured it in Kirikiththa, Weliweriya. Both companies pleaded guilty before the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court on December 23, 2025.

The court imposed a fine of Rs. 40,000 on each company and ordered them to remove the false claim stating “NMRA approval obtained” from the product label. The companies were further directed to correct the labeling and report back to court on January 20, 2026.

The CAA urged consumers to exercise caution when purchasing products online and advised the public to carefully check label information, verify approval claims, and ensure that complete manufacturer details are clearly stated before making a purchase.
