CAA raids illegal fertilizer sale in Matara

Colombo, March 31 (Daily Mirror) - The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) in Matara has conducted a special raid targeting the illegal sale of fertilizer, following a complaint received on March 30, 2026.

According to officials, investigating officers from the Matara District Office carried out the operation at a location where urea fertilizer was being sold after removing the mandated price labels and fraudulently altering product details.

During the raid, authorities seized 179 bags of 50kg urea fertilizer that had been tampered with in violation of consumer protection regulations.

The CAA said that legal action will be instituted against those responsible, and the seized stock along with the suspects will be produced before the Matara Magistrate’s Court.

Officials highlighted that strict action will be taken against traders who exploit consumers and farmers by manipulating prices and misleading product information.
