Bribery Commission to probe over Rs. 2,500 million reagent purchases at CNH

Colombop, September 25 (Daily Mirror) - The Bribery Commission has decided to launch an investigation into the purchase and misuse of laboratory reagents worth over Rs. 2,500 million at the Colombo National Hospital (CNH).

The Commission said in a written statement that it will investigate the procurement of expired or nearly expired reagents, as well as the improper standardization of purchased materials.

Several officials, including the current Health Secretary, the former Deputy Director General of Health Services of the National Hospital, specialist doctors, and laboratory technicians, have been accused of purchasing machinery and reagents from a single selected company.

The inquiry follows a complaint filed by specialist Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa with both the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Bribery Commission. The CID has already begun recording preliminary evidence in the matter.

Dr. Sanjeewa had previously raised concerns about delays in addressing the issue. In response, the Bribery Commission has confirmed that it will commence investigations immediately.
