Bag containing gas cartridges found on roof of Colombo building

Colombo, Oct. 30 (Daily Mirror) - The Cinnamon Gardens Police recovered a bag containing 10 gas cartridges on the roof of the Commons Coffeehouse building located on Flower Road, Colombo 7.

According to police, the cartridges were found inside a camouflage-type bag following a notification by the Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of Colombo South to the Officer-in-Charge of the Cinnamon Gardens Police Station.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the cartridges may have been left behind during the Aragalaya protests that took place near the Prime Minister’s Office in 2022.

A senior police officer said that it is suspected the cartridges were part of tear gas canisters brought by security forces, which later fell into the hands of protestors and were thrown during the unrest.

Police said that the bag containing the gas cartridges had deteriorated after prolonged exposure to sun and rain.

Investigations into the incident are currently being conducted by the Cinnamon Gardens Police.
