Aviation sector records strong growth in 2025: Ministry

Colombo, Dec 31 (Daily Mirror) -Sri Lanka’s aviation sector recorded significant growth during the period from January to November 2025, compared to the corresponding period in 2024, reflecting a steady revival of the industry, the Ports and Civil Aviation Ministry said.

According to official data, international passenger movements reached 9.23 million during the first 11 months of 2025, marking a 15.20 per cent year-on-year increase. International aircraft movements also rose to 58,454, an increase of 14.64 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Tourist arrivals by air also showed notable growth, with around 2.1 million visitors arriving in the country between January and November 2025. This represents a 16.73 per cent increase compared to the corresponding period in 2024.

Officials attribute this positive trend to renewed focus on the aviation sector following the appointment of the new government. Overcoming longstanding challenges under the guidance of the relevant ministers, along with the commitment of management and employees, has contributed to what is being described as a renaissance in Sri Lanka’s aviation industry.
