The Super 4 stage matches of the Asia Cup, which are scheduled to be played in Colombo from September 9, could be moved to a different venue, with Pallekele and Hambantota the likely alternatives.
Discussions between the Asian Cricket Council and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) are ongoing, an SLC official speaking to the Daily Mirror confirmed.
"A decision will be taken tomorrow or the day after," the official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said adding that Dambulla was not one of the venues being considered.
Torrential rains in Colombo this week have raised concerns that the matches down the crucial stretch of the tournament could be hampered, with Saturday's India-Pakistan clash in Pallekele also being washed out after India completed their innings, batting first.
Thunderstorms have been forecast in Colombo next week, with indications that it may continue until and beyond September 17, the day of the tournament final.

Hope that will bring rain to those areas. Good luck

It's been raining in Pallekale and Dambulla as well. Only Hambantota has less rain

Since rains are likely to continue the tournament must be postponed or moved to India. D/L method is no good as it favours one side all the time. Sad situ for sports loving Sri Lankans

Since there is no rationale thinking by the authorities who planned the venue and as we are a country with many mythical rituals they should seek the Kattandiyas to dash coconuts which they did in August. One cannot understand when during the month of August certain Monks had a boat ride in throwing flowers in the river seeking blessings of rain. But when there is a downpour of rain everyone says" Rain, Rain Go Away Come some other day which tantamounts to an attitude of Blowing Hot and Cold" To appease the POLITICAL devils OF THE BURNING HEAT the best venue is HAMBANTOTA

Should play in Dubai or Sharjah!!

All matches which are connected with super four should be shifted to Hambantota. However the cricket board officials should consult the meteorological experts before shifting the rest of the tournament to Suriawewa the spectators who wish to watch the relevant matches can conveniently travel to Hambantota either using southern highway or Mattala airport

The organizers did not plan the matches and the venues knowing the climatic changes and now they are struggling, but how about the local and overseas spectators? All in mess and the organizers has to bear the responsibility.

Having all the matches at Bangladesh would have been the best option, now it's too late.
Do Doo Dooo Chin Monday, 04 September 2023 10:15 AM
By the wrong decisions, the best team like India and Bangladesh could suffer.

Organisers must have been relying on the forecasts made by the Met Dept. that said, rains are expected in October only!
